A cashier at Farm and City Centre in Zvishavane got hit with three years behind bars after he pocketed over $13,000 that he was supposed to deposit into company bank accounts. The 21-year-old guy, Danda Tinashe Tinotenda, was collecting cash from till operators and just kept it instead of making the deposits. His bosses caught on when the bank balances looked completely wrong.
Police investigations confirmed he had stolen $13,422, and the court gave him 36 months total. Nine months got suspended if he behaves, and another nine months comes off if he pays back the full amount by the end of November. That leaves him with 18 months of actual jail time to serve. Prosecutors are telling businesses they need better internal controls because workplace fraud cases keep climbing.
