Cemetery ambush ends in deadly revenge

A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his former wife at a Hampshire cemetery. Martin Suter, aged 68, pleaded guilty to killing 71-year-old Ann Blackwood at Crofton Cemetery in Stubbington. The court heard that Suter concealed himself at the location for five hours before attacking Blackwood as she arrived by bicycle.

Prosecutors stated that Suter first stabbed his ex-wife in the back with a kitchen knife. After the blade broke, he then repeatedly stabbed her in the neck with a pair of scissors she had brought for arranging flowers. The attack occurred beside the grave of their son. Suter subsequently called emergency services to confess to the crime.

Judge Michael Bowes described the murder as brutally cruel. In a separate case, Suter had also previously admitted to indecently assaulting a girl under the age of 14.
