Chakwera Hands Out K50k to 4000 People in Cash Frenzy

President Lazarus Chakwera handed out K50,000 to 4,000 people at his state home Monday. The money giveaway happened at his residence near Chikokobay. Most people who received cash came from Zomba district. Officials picked about 400 people from each of the 10 voting areas there. Trucks brought residents from Zomba and nearby areas to the presidential lodge.

The total handout reached over K200 million if everyone got their share. Sources say the president wants to build support for his government. A similar event took place earlier at Kamuzu Palace where crowds gathered for the same payment. The money distribution comes during tough economic times for the country. Public hospitals lack basic medicines and fuel shortages affect daily life.

Malawi24 reporters visited Limbe Health Centre and found empty medicine shelves. Common drugs like Bufen and Panadol were missing. Patients must buy these medications with their money. Sugar has become hard to find across the nation. The 10 Zomba constituencies are Msondole, Thondwe, Chingale, Changalume, Lisanjala, Malosa, Mtonya, Likangala, Chisi and Zomba City.
