Nelson Chamisa decided to jump back into politics full time. The former opposition leader said he would never leave behind people who trust him to fight against Zanu PF staying in power. He wants to keep challenging the ruling party that has controlled Zimbabwe for many years. Chamisa believes citizens want real change to happen across the country. He also attacked plans from some Zanu PF officials who want President Emmerson Mnangagwa to stay beyond 2028.
The president has said many times that he follows the constitution and does not want his time in office extended past the normal end date of 2028. Some party members still pushed ahead with ideas to stretch his term until 2030. Chamisa called these extension plans complete rubbish during his interview. He said more than two million Zimbabweans have backed him consistently over the years. The politician promised never to turn his back on these supporters who depend on him.
Chamisa thinks the 2030 extension idea shows desperation from the ruling party. He believes they want to dodge facing voters in regular elections. The opposition figure said these plans would just damage Zimbabwe further instead of helping the nation move forward. Last year Zanu PF members voted at their party conference to change the constitution for extending presidential terms. They made this decision even though Mnangagwa had already spoken against such moves publicly.
