A car thief stole a Honda Fit with a five-year-old child inside after watching the mother enter her house in Masvingo's Mucheke suburb. Tarisai Hokonya, 38, had left her vehicle parked outside her gate with her daughter still seated inside. The suspect took advantage of her absence, jumped into the car, and drove away. When Hokonya returned, she discovered both her vehicle and child missing.
Police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, reported that the child came home crying about 15 minutes after the theft. She told her mother the unknown thief had abandoned her near Runyararo Primary School. Police searched for the car and thief throughout the area. They later found the damaged Honda Fit abandoned near Masvingo Provincial Heroes Acre following an accident.
Inspector Dhewa confirmed the thief had stolen the car battery and a Samsung phone from inside the vehicle before fleeing. The damaged car remains in police custody as evidence. Authorities continue their search for the suspect, who faces multiple charges if caught.
