Chegutu Police Arrest 22 Youths at Drug Party

Police Arrest 22 Youths at Drug Party in Chegutu.

Police have arrested 22 young people at a house party where drugs and alcohol were found in Chegutu's Rifle Range area.

The group included 15 boys and seven girls aged 15 to 25. Officers acted on a tip about a WhatsApp group created by Tinashe Kamunda that advertised the party.

Party organizers charged entrance fees of $2 for males and $1 for females. Attendees had to bring an extra $5 for alcohol purchases.

"We received information about suspected drug abuse at a party in Rifle Range," said Assistant Inspector Effort Chapoto, acting police spokesperson. "Our officers raided the house and made the arrests."

A search of the property revealed marijuana stubs, unused condoms, alcoholic beverages, and shisha equipment. Police contacted the parents and guardians of all arrested youths.

Kamunda paid a fine for disorderly conduct. The other participants faced lesser charges before being released to their parents and guardians.

"Parents and guardians must check their children's whereabouts," Chapoto said. He praised the community members who reported the party. "The bond between community and police brings positive results."
