Chief Adviser Yunus Urges Japan to Strengthen Cooperation in Investment, Youth Development, and Rohingya Response

Bangladesh leader Professor Muhammad Yunus asked Japan for more help during a Thursday meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna. The Chief Adviser spoke with Miyazaki Katsura from JICA about boosting cooperation on investments and fisheries projects. Yunus told the Japanese official that her country has always been a trusted friend to Bangladesh. He praised the warm welcome he received during his recent visit to Japan. The two leaders discussed expanding partnerships across multiple areas.

Yunus highlighted the importance of the Matarbari project for Bangladesh's future development plans. He emphasized his country's desire to build a sea-based economy around maritime resources. The Chief Adviser asked Japan to provide more scholarships for young Bangladeshi students. He also requested Japanese teachers to help locals learn the language and workplace customs. Distance learning programs could make this education more accessible.

The Rohingya refugee crisis came up during their discussion about humanitarian concerns. Yunus described the sad situation of thousands of young people growing up without hope in camps. He worried these frustrated youth might become angry and cause problems. Miyazaki promised JICA would continue supporting reforms in Bangladesh's government systems. She mentioned new projects for advanced technology training partnerships.

Women's sports achievements impressed both leaders during their conversation. Yunus bragged about how Bengali girls keep winning competitions around the world. He asked for Japanese help with athlete health and training programs. Miyazaki responded positively to requests for sports cooperation through volunteer programs. Yunus thanked Japan for signing billion-dollar loan agreements and asked for higher aid limits.
