Chiefs Praise Government for Boosting Traditional Welfare

Traditional leaders praised government support during a meeting at Mazowe Hotel Wednesday. More than 20 chiefs gathered for their Provincial Chiefs Council session. The National Council of Chiefs holds these meetings twice yearly to discuss cultural and development matters. Leaders talked about problems affecting their communities across the region.

Chief Negomo leads the Mashonaland Central Chiefs Council and spoke about government help. He thanked President Emmerson Mnangagwa for food programs and farming supplies. The government also provided water wells and electricity to traditional areas. Chiefs received vehicles to help them travel around their territories.

Drug abuse concerns brought leaders together to find solutions. Chiefs want stronger laws to fight substance problems among young people and adults. Senator Chief Nyamaropa remembers when leaders traveled without fuel and slept at schools. Government respect for traditional leaders has improved their working conditions greatly.

Minister Christopher Magomo promised continued partnership with chiefs for local development. He said traditions remain important for national progress under government programs. Two new chiefs await their installation ceremonies during the coming months. Chief Chapoto and Chief Chisunga will receive their positions soon.
