China Trade Talks Hit Freeze Will Trump Call Xi

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Fox News that America and China have hit roadblocks during trade discussions. The talks between both countries have slowed down recently. Bessent expects more conversations to happen over the coming weeks. He thinks President Trump might call Chinese leader Xi Jinping directly. The two world leaders could help push negotiations forward.

Both nations agreed this month to pause their tariff battle for 90 days. The surprise decision came after officials met in Geneva for talks. America will cut its China import taxes from 145 percent down to 30 percent temporarily. China will reduce its American import fees from 125 percent to just 10 percent. This truce affects the two largest economies on Earth.

Bessent believes the talks are complicated and need input from both presidents. Trump and Xi have built a strong working relationship over time. The treasury secretary feels confident that China will return to serious negotiations when Trump makes his demands clear. Both leaders must step in to solve the complex trade issues. Their personal involvement could break the current deadlock between the countries.
