Chivayo Dishes 250K Now Teases 1M Highlanders Bombshell

Businessman Wicknell Chivayo gave $250,000 cash to Highlanders Football Club. He promised another $750,000 over the next year for a total package worth $1 million. The money will help the team pay for new players and other costs. Chivayo wants to help the club compete better next season.

Chivayo said his late uncle John Landa Nkomo asked him to support Highlanders before he died. Nkomo was Zimbabwe's former Vice President and loved football. The two men talked at a hospital in December 2012 during what became their final meeting. Nkomo made three requests and helping the football club was one of them.

Highlanders started in 1926 and is Zimbabwe's oldest football club. Albert and Rhodes Khumalo founded the team after their grandfather King Lobengula. The club plays at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo. Chivayo called the team an important part of Zimbabwe's football history and culture.
