Chivhu Dam Spurs Growth at Local Irrigation Scheme

Farmers by Chivhu Dam grow better crops thanks to water from this new lake in the Chikomba district. The government paid for the whole dam, which President Mnangagwa opened last year. Leaders want each new dam to help local farmers water their fields. People who lived nearby or had to move when the lake filled up get first chance at these farm plots.

Today, 45 families farm at the Chivhu water project. They grow corn and beans on their land. Minister Itayi Ndudzo visited them yesterday. He spoke with farmers and checked how well the plants grew.

The minister said Chivhu Dam has been a big success under President Mnangagwa. Fresh water from this lake goes to Chivhu townhomes. Farmers eat and sell more food from the fields fed by the dam waters. Many told the minister they live better lives since farming here.

He praised the President for making changes that help Chivhu and nearby towns. Farmer Mr. Cheumwe Nhoto runs trucks that carry loads. Money from his farm crops bought new tires for his truck, which drives to Congo.

Mr. Nhoto likes that the government provided free land, water pumps, and tools. Hard work with these gifts makes his part of the deal fair. Ms. Locadia Muzorori found moving from her old home hard. Farm work lets her earn what she needs again.

At first, Ms. Muzorori doubted farm work would feed her family. She learned its true worth as time passed. After her husband died, she lost hope until farm work began. Her child goes to a good school from what she earns.

Through farm work, Ms. Muzorori's life changed in good ways. She thanks President Mnangagwa from deep in her heart, but her words fall short when she tries to express how much this help means to her.
