Chiwenga Roars Peace Plea to World at Pope Funeral

VP Constantino Chiwenga asks world leaders at Pope Francis' funeral to follow the Pope's example of peace, love, and care. He arrived in Rome to join other officials for the burial ceremony. Pope Francis passed away Easter Monday from a stroke and heart failure.

The Pope will rest at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major because of his deep devotion to Mary. About 1.4 billion Catholics worldwide mourn his death. President Mnangagwa praised him as a devoted servant whose voice uplifted spiritual awareness.

Chiwenga told reporters that the Zimbabwean people find comfort in the Pope's exemplary life. He urged leaders to consider their role in creating world peace and fixing social problems. This reflection can help end conflicts and hunger across the globe.

As a Catholic himself, Chiwenga noted the strong ties between Zimbabwe and the Catholic Church. The funeral has drawn many international figures, such as UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The Pope's burial location breaks from tradition, as recent popes have been buried at St. Peter's Basilica.
