Chiwenga Steps In Grand Farewell for Mupamhanga

Acting President Chiwenga to Lead National Hero's Burial.

Acting President Dr Constantino Chiwenga will lead the burial of national hero Justin Mupamhanga today. The ceremony will take place at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.

President Mnangagwa is on annual leave. Dr Chiwenga is standing in for him.

The national shrine will open to mourners at 6 am. Everyone should be seated by 7 am.

Mr Mupamhanga, the former Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, died last Wednesday in a Harare hospital.

Yesterday, a church service was held in his honor at Mabelreign Revelation-Methodist Church. Mourners remembered him as a devout man.

Former colleagues and church members praised his service. They said his death was a huge loss.

Mr Mupamhanga left university in 1975 to join the liberation struggle. He later completed his studies and held key roles in the ruling ZANU party.

After independence, he had a distinguished government career. He started in the President's Department in 1983.
