A kid and a man drowned trying to get a plastic bottle. Two people, a five-year-old boy and a thirty-one-year-old man, died after falling into a deep water-filled pit in the Mzila Compound area of Kwekwe. Police confirmed the Christmas Day tragedy occurred when the child tried to retrieve an empty two-liter container he was playing with near the hazardous hole.
Authorities stated the man, who had been drinking nearby, jumped in to attempt a rescue but also drowned in the two-meter deep water. Patrons from a local bar later recovered both bodies from the pit. The victims were taken to Kwekwe General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
