Cops Get a Makeover to Build the Nation

Presidential Affairs Secretary Tafadzwa Muguti says Zimbabwe police officers need to look beyond law enforcement toward national growth. He spoke yesterday at Mkushi Academy during a training session for chief superintendents. Police Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba requested the workshop through the office led by Chief Cabinet Secretary Martin Rushwaya. Officers learned that modern policing involves addressing economic issues alongside traditional duties.

Muguti emphasized that officers should work without outside pressure. He warned against people who name-drop the President or claim political connections to influence police actions. The training taught officers about government structures from national to local levels. They learned about fiscal management practices that support economic development across all departments.

The program covered relationships between central authorities, provincial councils, and local governments. Officers studied what elected officials at each level should accomplish. They received information about senior government roles, like permanent secretaries, to help them communicate better across agencies. This knowledge helps law enforcement support national goals, including Vision 2030.
