Cupertino Apple taps Samsung COE for razor iPhone 2027

Apple plans to integrate Samsung's Color Filter on Encapsulation OLED technology into its 2027 anniversary iPhone model. This COE display removes traditional polarizing films that typically block light transmission. The elimination allows screens to achieve greater brightness while reducing thickness and power consumption. However, removing polarizers creates increased reflection and glare problems during outdoor use. Apple must develop enhanced anti-reflective coatings to compensate for this visibility challenge.

Samsung already applies COE technology across its Galaxy Z foldable devices and will extend implementation to the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra. Reports suggest Apple's anniversary device may feature wraparound displays curving over all four edges. The company simultaneously develops under-display Face ID sensors and front cameras to eliminate notches entirely. These thinner COE panels would contribute to a more streamlined device profile. The twentieth anniversary milestone represents Apple's opportunity to establish new industry design standards through advanced display innovation.
