Cure’s Perry Bamonte dies at 65

The Cure's Perry Bamonte has died. The band announced that the guitarist and keyboardist passed away at his home over Christmas after a brief illness. He was sixty-five years old. Bamonte first joined the group's road crew in 1984 because his brother was the tour manager, and later became a technician for frontman Robert Smith. He officially became a member in 1990, contributing to albums like Wish and Bloodflowers. Smith dismissed him in 2005.

Bamonte stayed active in music after leaving the Cure. He joined the supergroup Love Amongst Ruin with former Placebo drummer Steve Hewitt, appearing on their 2015 record. A reunion with his old band happened a decade later. He was not on their latest album, but he did tour with them throughout 2024, playing shows up until a London date in November. His multi-instrumental work across guitars, bass, and keyboards defined his long tenure with the iconic goth rock act.
