Nigeria Customs Service earned N1.3 trillion during the first three months of 2025. The agency chief, Bashir Adeniyi, credits President Tinubu's new policies for this success. The money earned was more than twice what they collected during the same time in 2023, when they only brought in N600 billion. Better work methods and stricter rules helped boost the numbers.
Customs plans to spend $3.2 billion on new computer systems for ports and borders. The digital upgrade will replace old paper forms with online processing. Officials expect this technology to generate $250 billion over the next twenty years. They recovered N64 billion from companies that paid less than they should have. Border guards caught major smuggling groups at key crossing points.
The agency cut shipping delays from three weeks to just seven or ten days, allowing businesses to clear their goods much faster at Lagos ports. Nigeria exported N340 billion worth of farm products and minerals last year, a jump of 38 percent from the previous year. Customs wants to increase overseas sales even more this year.
