Czech President Petr Pavel plans to visit Ghana for three days next week. He arrives on Tuesday, April 8, and leaves on Thursday, April 10, during what officials call a historic trip between the nations.
The government announced these plans through a statement from Felix Kwakye Ofosu on April 4. As Minister of State handling Government Communications, he shared details about the upcoming visit. This marks the first time any Czech president has traveled to Ghana since both countries started diplomatic connections back in October 1959.
President Mahama will welcome Pavel as his first official state guest since taking office earlier this year in January. The packed schedule includes several key events where both leaders will meet. Pavel plans to talk business with Mahama, speak at a business meeting, cut the ribbon at a new health building funded by Czech money, and tour famous sites.
During the three-day stay, visitors will see the Osu Castle and walk through the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. President Mahama has also planned a special dinner to honor his Czech visitor during the historic trip. Both countries hope to strengthen their friendship through these activities across the three days of meetings and events.
