Deadly Mine Collapse Claims Five Lives in Bindura

Tragedy in Bindura: Seven Miners Die in Shaft Collapse.

A sad thing happened in Zimbabwe. It was in a town called Bindura. Seven people died there on Saturday.

They were working in a mine. It was called Botha Mine. The ground fell in on them. They got trapped.

The police know five of the people's identities, as their families told them. However, two of the miners have not been named yet.

The police said the miners should not have been there. The mine was not safe. It was too wet from a lot of rain. The ground was not strong.

A government leader went to the mine. His name is Christopher Magomo. He said mining there had been banned. The mine did not meet the rules.

Mr. Magomo said bad things happened at the mine. People did drugs there. They made deals that were not legal.

The mine is 34 meters deep, about as tall as a ten-story building. It also has a long tunnel.

The tunnel is 20 meters long, or about four car lengths. The ground fell into the tunnel, trapping the miners.

Three of the miners who died were from one family: one was from Chikwaka, and one was from Chipadze.

People got the bodies out by hand, but then they had to stop. It was not safe to keep going. They did not get to the end of the tunnel, so they do not know if they got everyone out.

A woman said guards took money to let the miners in. The money was a bribe. She wants the government to put guards there. She wants them to keep people safe.

The person who runs the mine said it was closed last year. He said it was too dangerous. But the miners went in anyway. And now seven of them are dead.

It is a very sad story. The government wants people to be more careful and does not want this to happen again.
