Deco warns Barca is not a mates club even for Williams

Barcelona sports chief Deco made clear that friendship does not drive their transfer decisions. He spoke about the club's interest bringing Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams to their team. Williams has apparently signed a six-year agreement with Barcelona and waits for both Spanish clubs to complete their talks. The 22-year-old player was already on Barcelona's target list during last summer's transfer window. Deco stressed that Williams earned consideration through his football skills rather than personal relationships.

The Barcelona official mentioned that Williams' friendship with current player Lamine Yamal adds something nice to the potential move. However, he emphasized that personal bonds between players do not influence major signing choices. Barcelona focuses on building a winning team through smart football decisions rather than keeping friends together. Deco wants everyone to understand that the club operates as a serious business focused on achieving victories. The sports director believes Barcelona must prioritize professional goals over social connections when building their squad.

Williams continues waiting for both teams to finish their discussions about his transfer fee. Athletic Bilbao will need to agree on compensation before releasing their talented winger. Barcelona hopes to complete this deal and add Williams to their attacking options for next season. The young Spanish international would bring pace and creativity to their forward line. His addition could help Barcelona compete better against Real Madrid and other European rivals.
