Delta Police offer hot tip to banks - crime happens in ember

Delta State police authorities have directed financial institutions to strengthen their security protocols ahead of the approaching holiday season. Commissioner Olufemi Abaniwonda addressed banking executives during a meeting on Tuesday in Asaba. Deputy Commissioner Olumuyiwa Adejobi emphasized the need for modern surveillance systems and functional cameras within banking facilities. Officials warned that criminal activity typically increases during ember wintertime when more people travel through the region.

The police command highlighted proactive measures to prevent holiday-related crimes across Delta State. Banks must install advanced monitoring equipment to assist law enforcement surveillance efforts. The state's location near the eastern boundaries with Edo and neighboring regions requires enhanced security planning. Central Bank of Nigeria security officer Evangeline Patrick confirmed that cash deliveries only occur when banks provide sufficient armed police escorts. Thirty-nine bank representatives attended the strategic security conference alongside CBN officials.
