Deputy President Hails Massive Job Growth

Kenya's Job Creation Efforts Show Progress, Deputy President Says.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki reported strong advancement in the Kenya Kwanza Administration's employment initiatives during a Thursday inter-ministerial meeting.

The government has launched multiple programs to boost both local and international job opportunities. "Our job creation program is on the course," Kindiki said. "We are making every effort to accelerate it and push the number of people engaged in meaningful employment higher."

The administration emphasizes that all forms of work hold value, reflecting President William Ruto's campaign message of "Kazi Ni Kazi" (Work is Work). "A job doesn't have to be permanent and pensionable; that is just one type of a job," Kindiki stated.

Current employment initiatives span various sectors. The affordable housing project has created positions for 160,000 young people, and another 200,000 youth across 47 counties participate in ClimateWorkx, a climate resilience program.

Kindiki defended these temporary construction jobs against critics. He explained that providing 500,000 young people with work over two to four years brings immediate benefits, with plans for future programs already under development.

The government's Labor Mobility Program has placed more than 200,000 Kenyans in international positions. To increase access to digital employment opportunities, plans include establishing 1,450 Digital Hubs nationwide, with one hub per ward.

Senior officials, including Principal Secretaries from Labor, Youth Affairs, Industry, Trade, and other key departments, attended the meeting. The gathering focused on tracking progress and accelerating domestic and overseas employment programs.

The administration continues to partner with private sector entities and create opportunities in public service and security agencies. These efforts aim to expand job access across multiple sectors of the economy.
