Dev of buggy Lords of the Fallen calls sequel its Empire Strikes Back

CI Games plans to release Lords of the Fallen 2 in 2026, following the mixed reception of their 2023 reboot. Creative portfolio strategist David Valjalo believes this upcoming sequel will serve as the studio's breakthrough moment. He compares the project to iconic sequels like The Empire Strikes Back and The Dark Knight. Valjalo describes the game as darker and more ambitious than its predecessor.

The original Lords of the Fallen debuted in 2014 but failed to achieve significant commercial success. The 2023 version performed better despite launching with numerous technical problems. CI Games spent two years developing an overhauled version to address these issues. The studio recently reduced prices across its entire catalog as part of its player-focused initiative.

Valjalo reports that development progresses smoothly with impressive visual elements and combat systems. The sequel promises a unique setting with higher stakes than previous entries. The studio aims to build upon the 2023 game while maintaining its core identity.
