North South University hosted the third Youth Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology from September 13-14, 2025, marking Bangladesh's first time welcoming this prestigious event. COMSTECH, the Islamic Organization for Food Security, and the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum collaborated to organize the hybrid conference. Finance and Science Technology Ministry Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed served as the chief guest alongside other distinguished officials. The gathering attracted faculty, researchers, graduate students, and early-career scientists from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Participants engaged in discussions about cutting-edge agricultural biotechnology developments.
Speakers addressed CRISPR-Cas systems, climate-resistant crop gene editing, accelerated breeding techniques, and livestock genome selection during the two-day program. Ethical and regulatory considerations surrounding gene editing technologies received significant attention from attendees. The forum highlighted the potential of agricultural biotechnology in enhancing food security across OIC nations. Young researchers utilized the platform to share innovative concepts and establish collaborative partnerships. Pakistan launched this initiative in 2021, followed by Kazakhstan's hosting in 2023, before Bangladesh welcomed the current edition.
