A Dhaka court granted authorities one day to question Matiur Rahman and his wife Laila Kaniz about corruption allegations. Rahman previously worked for the National Board of Revenue and became notorious through the goat scandal. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam approved the remand request during Sunday proceedings. Anti-Corruption Commission Prosecutor Mohammad Tarikul Islam confirmed the court decision following the hearing.
The Anti-Corruption Commission originally requested three days to interrogate the couple on August 13. Investigators rescheduled the court appearance to Sunday after the original August 31 date passed without the investigating officer present. ACC Assistant Director Sabikun Nahar serves as the case investigator and submitted the initial remand petition.
Authorities filed charges against the couple's daughter Farzana Rahman on January 6 for financial crimes. The case alleges she concealed approximately 2.45 crore taka while illegally obtaining assets exceeding 53.41 crore taka. Prosecutors claim both parents deliberately submitted false information about their wealth to anti-corruption officials.
