Dinajpur to Plant 800,000 Saplings in Massive Tree Plantation Campaign on 19 July

Officials from Dinajpur district plan a massive green campaign that will see 800,000 baby trees planted across the region on July 19. Deputy Commissioner Md Rafiqul Islam announced the ambitious project during a Thursday afternoon meeting at his office. The tree planting drive aims to boost fresh air production and protect local wildlife habitats across all communities. More than 25,000 teachers and 1,000 village police officers will join the environmental effort. Every union must plant at least 7,000 young trees during the coordinated event.

The campaign features 100 different types of trees ranging from fruit producers to medicinal plants and forest species. District leaders made sure to exclude eucalyptus and acacia varieties from their planting list. All 13 sub-districts along with municipalities and rural areas will participate at the same time. The Forest Department will host a special 10-day tree fair at Gor-e-Shaheed Boro Maidan starting that same day. Local citizens can browse different plant options and learn about environmental protection.

District Commissioner Islam hopes at least 100,000 residents will each plant seven saplings to make the program successful. The coordinated effort represents one of the largest environmental initiatives ever attempted across the region. Additional deputy commissioners Mohammad Riaz Uddin and SM Habibul Hasan attended the planning meeting alongside forest officials. Divisional Forest Officer Anwar Hossain Sarkar and Assistant Forest Conservator Nurunnahar also participated. Community leaders from across the district joined the planning discussions.
