Disturbing Tumbwa Trend Threatens Rural Economy

Farmers in Zimbabwe are worried about a new problem on their farms. Many workers are using illegal drugs that are cheap and easy to get. One of these drugs is called "tumbwa."

Tumbwa is very strong and makes people feel tired. They sleep for a long time and can't do their jobs well. This is causing big issues for tobacco farmers.

The drugs are being sold in farm areas where workers live. Some people who don't even work on the farms are bringing in the drugs to sell.

Workers who use tumbwa make a lot of mistakes. They break equipment and pick tobacco leaves before they are ready. This leads to poor quality crops and less money for farmers.

Using these drugs is also dangerous. Farm workers often operate machines that can be unsafe if someone is drunk or high.

Community leaders are trying to help. They want young people to understand that using these toxic drugs is like putting the wrong fuel in a car - it will damage their health.

The government is being asked to take action. Suggestions include educating people about the risks, stopping the illegal drug makers, and keeping a close watch on who is living in farm compounds.

Farmers need their workers to be healthy and reliable to keep the tobacco industry running well. Stopping tumbwa and other dangerous drugs from spreading is an important step.
