Doctors Celebrate Sh1.75B Salary Arrears Paid

The government is finally coughing up some cash for the doctors! The Ministry of Health says it's giving out a whopping Sh1.75 billion. That's a lot of dough!

Mary Muthoni broke the good news on Saturday. She's a big shot - the Public Health Principal Secretary. Muthoni was out talking to folks in Kirinyaga County.

The government owed the doctors a total of Sh3.5 billion. Can you believe it? That's money for salaries and allowances going back to 2016! But now they've paid off half of it. Muthoni says they'll keep working closely with the doctors. She called them "very dear" to the ministry.

Medical interns are getting paid, too! Muthoni promised they'd get their money in their next paychecks. And get this - the government won't even take out the cash they owe. It's all because of a meeting with the doctors' union.

This is a big deal for the healthcare workers. They've been complaining about late payments for a long time, and it looks like the government is finally listening.

The intern doctors almost went on strike last month. They were ready to walk out on December 22nd. But then Deputy President Kithure Kindiki stepped in. He got the Ministry of Health and the doctors' union to make a deal.

Kindiki said the government really values the doctors. He called them "selfless" for calling off the strike. The deputy president said the health of every Kenyan is a top priority.

The deal is pretty sweet for the interns. They'll get a monthly salary of Sh206,000, which is what they were promised in 2017.

Davji Atellah is the head honcho at the doctors' union. He said it's a done deal. The interns' payslips have already been updated.

It's about time the doctors got what they were owed! Let's hope the government keeps its word and pays up the rest of the cash soon.
