Rodney Tongai Jindu cried as a Bulawayo judge gave him two life sentences yesterday for killing his friends in 2017. He originally faced death sentences before President Mnangagwa ended capital punishment last year. His lawyers told the court Jindu had changed, becoming religious during his time behind bars. The prosecutor argued both murders were planned ahead of time.
Justice Nokuthula Moyo noted that Jindu showed no real remorse since he never sent anyone to apologize to the victims' families. She rejected his claim that drugs made him kill his friends. The judge pointed out that he used a gun for both killings. Jindu also cut up the bodies afterward. Body parts from both victims remain missing today.
Jindu killed his childhood friend Kudzurunga because he feared the man knew about his first murder of Mboneli Ncube. He even sent fake messages to Kudzurunga's mother, pretending her son had left the country. Jindu later told police that someone offered him money or a vehicle for Ncube's body parts. He lived just four houses away from Ncube before the killings.
