DPP Predicts Peter Mutharika Victory in 16 September General Election

The Democratic Progressive Party believes Arthur Peter Mutharika will win Malawi's September 16, 2025 election. Party leaders held a rally at Thundu Primary School grounds in Zomba district. Eastern Region Vice President Bright Nsaka told supporters that citizens want new leadership. He blamed the current Malawi Congress Party government for economic problems. Nsaka said people suffer from high prices and food shortages.

Essential goods like sugar, cooking oil and fuel cost more under current leadership according to Nsaka. Families struggle with expensive maize and fertilizer that create hunger across the nation. The DPP official called Professor Mutharika the country's best hope for change. Party leaders promise to lower commodity prices if voters choose them. They also pledge to solve fuel shortages and strengthen farming to boost food production.

Nsaka announced James Mpunga as the party's choice for Zomba South parliamentary seat. Eastern Region Governor Daudi Chikwanje told residents their problems will end after the election. Mpunga expressed eagerness to serve constituents through development projects. The parliamentary candidate promised to work hard for positive changes in people's lives. Several party officials attended the political gathering.

Zomba City Council Mayor Christopher Jana joined other regional leaders at the event. Eastern Region Women's Director Elube Kandewu participated alongside Campaign Director Dumisani Lindani. Youth Director Steven Bamusi and parliamentary aspirant Moses Mwenye also appeared. The rally demonstrated party unity ahead of national elections. DPP officials urged residents to vote for their candidates.
