Dr. Selik killed as El Fasher starves, world scrolls

A Sudanese doctor who survived 500 days of siege in El Fasher was killed during dawn prayers when a missile struck his mosque and claimed approximately 75 lives. Dr. Omar Selik had remained in the besieged Darfur city to treat wounded residents despite severe shortages of medical supplies and food. Witnesses reported the attack came from a drone allegedly supplied by the United Arab Emirates to Rapid Support Forces fighters surrounding the quarter-million population center.

The paramilitary group constructed a 42-mile earthen barrier around El Fasher and executed residents attempting nighttime crossings. President Trump's Africa adviser, Massad Boulos, negotiated with RSF leadership to permit humanitarian convoys into the blockaded area. American officials indicated 45 United Nations trucks could depart as early as next Monday, pending final distribution arrangements with warring factions controlling different neighborhoods.
