Drug Prices Set to Plummet with Medipool Move

Nigeria plans to make medicine cheaper for everyone through a new system called Medipool. The government will buy drugs from suppliers at lower prices because it purchases large amounts, helping local drug makers sell more products across the country. The plan comes after President Tinubu signed rules last June to help Nigerian factories make more medicine. Health Minister Ali Pate says other countries like Kenya, South Africa, and Saudi Arabia use similar buying methods.

The government also approved money for a heart treatment machine at Usman Dan Fodio University Teaching Hospital. The hospital will spend N2.3 billion on this equipment to help patients with heart problems. People from Sokoto State and nearby areas can use these services instead of traveling abroad for treatment. The machine will save lives and keep money inside Nigeria rather than sending patients to other countries. Doctors at the hospital can train better and provide higher-quality care with this new technology.
