Drunk Drivers Nabbed on Leningrad Roads

Police across Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad region started catching drunk drivers Friday evening. The operation, called "Drunk Driver," will run for three days as officers test motorists showing signs of intoxication. Traffic safety officials want to remove impaired drivers from roads throughout the area.

Penalties remain steep for those caught driving under the influence. If caught, people face fines of 45 thousand rubles and lose their license for eighteen to twenty-four months. The State Traffic Inspectorate continues these enforcement actions as part of regular safety measures.

The traffic police recently advised city residents against switching to summer tires early. They released information about popular tire brands among local drivers and shared data about the most common used cars purchased by residents in the northern capital region.
