Zibusiso Phiri attacked his mother, Pretty Dube, after returning home intoxicated on July 14, 2025. The 32-year-old resident of Ntabazinduna Flats in Bulawayo became enraged when he perceived disrespect from the 59-year-old woman. Phiri hurled dinner plates across their residence while screaming about his position as the eldest child. He then physically assaulted Dube multiple times before she escaped to safety. The victim reported the attack at Mzilikazi Police Station, where officers documented her injuries.
