Following its acquisition of MultiChoice, Canal+ has announced a dedicated SuperSport channel for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament, hosted by Morocco from December 21, will be broadcast across the continent in several languages, including English, French, and Portuguese. Canal+ Africa CEO David Mignot stated that the merger has enabled this expanded coverage, which aims to bring subscribers closer to the event.
The 35th edition of the football championship will feature twenty-four national teams competing in Moroccan venues until the final on January 18. This dedicated channel ensures comprehensive viewing of all matches. The initiative is one of the first major content enhancements since Canal+ finalized its takeover of MultiChoice in September, a deal that created a combined entity with millions of subscribers.
The new ownership has also introduced other content, such as French Ligue 1 football, to DStv’s offerings. Company leadership emphasized a commitment to significantly increasing local production, planning to aggregate thousands of hours of African-language programming annually for a growing content library.
