Durga Puja fever hits Auliapur after 16-year ban

The district administration lifted Section 144 restrictions at Sri Sri Rasik Roy Jiu Temple in Thakurgaon, allowing Durga Puja celebrations after a sixteen-year hiatus. Authorities imposed the ban following a fatal 2009 confrontation between Sanatani and ISKCON followers that killed temple servant Phul Babu. Local officials successfully mediated an agreement between both religious factions this year. The community prepares elaborate festivities with idol construction and decorative arrangements.

Residents express relief about returning to their historic worship site after using alternative temples since the incident. Young community members look forward to experiencing celebrations they have never witnessed at this location. Police Superintendent Sheikh Zahidul Islam expects the festival will strengthen communal harmony through cooperative efforts. Deputy Commissioner Ishrat Farzana believes the agreement establishes lasting peace between the groups.
