EA hides NHL 26 gameplay behind Tkachuks and hollow promises

Electronic Arts announced EA Sports NHL 26 will launch September 12, 2025 exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. The publisher continues its tradition of excluding PC platforms from the annual hockey franchise. The Tkachuk family graces this year's cover featuring Matthew and Brady Tkachuk alongside their retired father Keith Tkachuk. Keith previously played for multiple NHL teams during his 18-year professional career. Matthew recently won consecutive Stanley Cup championships with the Florida Panthers.

The game promises significant updates to its Be A Pro mode, which creative director Mike Inglehart describes as the largest overhaul since NHL 21. EA Sports introduces a Goalie Crease Control System designed to enhance netminder responsiveness and positioning mechanics. The development team claims this edition delivers their most authentic hockey simulation experience. However, franchise enthusiasts express skepticism about meaningful improvements given previous iterations. The reveal trailer emphasized cinematic presentation over gameplay demonstrations, following typical patterns for annual sports releases.
