EcoCash Plus wallet lands as Zimbabwe targets MSMEs and informal sector billions

EcoCash Holdings launched EcoCash Plus to help small business owners across Zimbabwe better manage their money. The mobile wallet aims at tiny shops, vendors, and service providers who make up more than 60 percent of the country's economy. Business owners can receive payments from customers, buy electricity tokens, and pay council bills using their phones. The platform allows them to send wages to workers and track all transactions with digital records. EcoCash Plus also connects small traders with large companies for ordering stock.

Zimbabwe's informal economy contributes over 60 percent of national income, but many entrepreneurs operate outside banks and formal systems. Cash transactions expose them to theft risks and prevent access to loans and growth opportunities. The new wallet addresses this by creating digital payment trails that build trust with lenders. Small grocery stores, hardware shops, salons, tailors, and craft vendors can all use the service.

Financial experts praise the product for opening doors to informal traders who struggle to access capital. The platform creates data trails that prove business activity and help owners qualify for future loans. EcoCash Plus arrives as the government pushes to bring informal businesses into the formal economy.

Registration involves sending a WhatsApp message and following simple steps. Business owners need valid identity documents, proof of address, and trading licenses to sign up. The wallet aims to make daily business operations easier and safer for Zimbabwe's many small entrepreneurs.
