Elders Urge Muturi to Talk With President Ruto

Regional Elders Ask Cabinet Secretary Muturi to Meet with President.

Elders from three Kenyan counties urged Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi to meet with President William Ruto on Tuesday. Leaders from Embu, Meru, and Tharaka Nithi said strained ties could harm their region.

"We love you, Muturi, but we ask you to speak with the President," a Njuri Ncheke elder said. The group wants Muturi to meet both Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

The elders stressed unity with the government. "You went for his help before. Go back and work," one elder said. Another added, "Follow work rules and unite with the President and deputy."

Muturi faces pressure from some MPs who want him to resign. They object to his recent comments about abductions in Kenya. But Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi defended the cabinet secretary, calling the demands baseless.

Mundigi warned that removing Muturi would hurt the Kenya Kwanza coalition. He cited agreements between the Democratic Party and Kenya Kwanza that led to Muturi's appointment.

"These calls for resignation will not benefit Embu County," Mundigi said. "The coalition agreement came before his cabinet position."
