Elon Musk Bails on Trump Government Gig

Elon Musk quit his job helping Donald Trump cut government spending after months of fighting federal workers. The billionaire announced his departure Wednesday evening through a post on his X social media platform. Musk struggled to achieve his goals and faced resistance from other administration officials who disliked his changes. He originally wanted to slash 2 trillion dollars but reduced his target to just 150 billion dollars. The entrepreneur decided to return full attention to running Tesla and SpaceX companies.

Musk criticized Trump's legislative package one day before announcing his resignation from the government efficiency department. He called the president's bill a massive spending measure that increases federal debt problems. The Tesla owner said the legislation undermines his work trying to reduce wasteful government expenses. Republican lawmakers shared similar concerns about the expensive proposal moving through Congress. Some senators promised to slow down the bill until Trump gets serious about cutting spending.

Trump defended his agenda despite Musk's public disagreement about the costs and effectiveness of the proposed changes. House Speaker Mike Johnson thanked Musk for his service and promised future spending reductions based on his recommendations. The White House plans to send 1.1 billion dollars in cuts to public broadcasting and 8.3 billion dollars in foreign aid reductions. Congressional budget experts estimate the tax provisions could add 3 trillion dollars to national debt over ten years.
