A Malaysian engineer lost 275,000 ringgit to criminals who used a fake investment scheme advertised on Facebook. The 57-year-old man from Alor Setar clicked on a social media advertisement for something called Moomoo during April. Scammers directed him to a WhatsApp group named 6 Investment Securities International through the fake promotion. The criminals promised him quick profits of 10 percent within just a few days. Police say the victim believed their false claims about trading Chinese currency.
The engineer sent his money to fraudsters through eight separate bank transfers between May 27 and June 13. Criminals told him to send payments to two business accounts called Cisi Infra Solution and Cisi CPT Infra Trading. The scammers used phone numbers 019-2007253 and 019-2345678 to communicate with their target. They kept asking for more money when the victim expected his promised returns. The criminals claimed additional payments would help release his original investment and profits.
Kedah Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Loi Yew Lik confirmed the fraud case details. The victim became suspicious when no money arrived despite multiple requests for additional funds. He filed a police report at Baling District Police Headquarters after realizing the scheme was fake. Police urged citizens to check investment offers with authorities before sending money. Officials recommend using the Mule Check app, the CCID Facebook page or calling the National Scam Response Centre at 997 for verification.
