Enugu will stage the fourth Southeast Zonal Badminton Championship at the Indoor Gymnasium Sports Hall of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, bringing together competitors from five states. Southeast Badminton Outreach has organized the competition alongside the Badminton Federation of Nigeria and Enugu State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, with backing from the Bet9ja Foundation.
Athletes from Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo will compete in male, female, and veteran divisions. The tournament doubles as preparation for participants ahead of the National Sports Festival that Enugu State will host.
Mrs. Oby Edoga Solaja, a 1996 Olympian representing the Southeast zone on the BFN Board, highlighted the championship's role in identifying emerging talent. She called for increased corporate and individual sponsorship while noting regional initiatives to supply equipment and enhance coaching certification programs.
