Epic lets Fortnite creators sell their own items

Epic Games revealed new monetization options for Fortnite creators this week. Developers will gain the ability to sell virtual items directly through their custom islands beginning this December. The company established a generous revenue structure that awards creators the full sale value from December 2025 until late 2026, after which the standard 50 percent rate applies. Epic plans to revise engagement compensation starting November 1, 2025, with creators receiving 75 percent of revenue from new or returning players during their initial six months.

The gaming giant will introduce a sponsored section on its Discover page where creators can bid for promotional placement through an auction system. This feature follows the same revenue timeline as direct item sales. Epic also announced Creator Communities, which enables developers to establish forum spaces for updates and player feedback. The moves represent Epic's ongoing rivalry with Roblox in the user-generated content market, with creators having earned $722 million across 260,000 active islands.
