People in Harare are losing their homes to crooks who work with council workers. Four families in Mabvuku just lost their land this way.
The trouble started at 46 Marembo Street. Bad people kicked out families who lived there since 1992. They did this even though these families had the right papers and paid their bills.
Mr Mofolo Makasa tried to pay his bill at the local office. The workers there said his account was closed. But he went to another office in town and paid with no problems. He got a receipt number 14641678.
Someone checked the land on Tuesday. They saw new people building houses there. These builders broke the fence and gate. One new house went over two different plots and messed up the council's marking posts.
Mrs Faith Raradza and Mr Addmore Guzha from the council know about this mess. They say they want to fix it. The local leader, Mr Alexio Nyakudya, won't answer his phone.
Mr Makasa wrote to the Mayor, Jacob Mafume, on November 8. He said the council treated him unfairly. No one told him to leave his land. He thinks a man named Jacob Jackson, who claims he knows council people, might be behind this.
Mr Makasa has lived there since 1992. He always paid what he owed the city. His account number is 910167100. The council never sent him any papers about selling his land.
He asked many people for help. He talked to lawyers. He met with Mr Nyakudya. Nothing changed. The new people kept building on his land.
Mrs Maggie Mazonde lost her land too. She feels very sad. She raised her children in that house. She says she always paid her bills, but the council doesn't care.
Both families want help from people in charge. They say it's not fair that someone can take their homes when they did everything right.
