Ex-con slips out of prison, robs Lilongwe bikers again

Cops in Lilongwe are trying to figure out how a two-time convicted felon kept walking the streets. The guy, Peter Mwenyeveza, also called Peter Mwale, just got arrested again for a string of violent motorcycle robberies. Police spokesperson Hastings Chigala confirmed the arrest, noting the suspect was previously handed a four-year term for stealing cattle and a six-year sentence for nicking motorcycles. Neither one seemed to stick.

The recent crime spree involved serious attacks where victims got hurt or killed. A police hunt led them back to Mwenyeveza. Authorities are now digging into why his prior convictions did not result in actual prison time, allowing this cycle to continue. He remains in custody while they investigate the apparent failure of the justice system to keep him locked up. The twenty-five-year-old is originally from a village in Dedza District.
