Former minister Geofrey Mwambe is sitting in a Dar es Salaam holding cell waiting for a bail hearing at Kisutu court after police grabbed him back on December 7. His lawyer, Hekima Mwasipu, applied to the Inspector General of Police, plus two other officials, and the case landed in front of Chief Resident Magistrate Hassan Makube.
Mwambe ran the Tanzania Investment Centre before getting elected to parliament for Masasi under CCM, then climbed through positions like Minister of State for Investment and later Industry and Trade. The bail request targets the IGP, the Director of Public Prosecutions, and the head of criminal investigations for the special zone.
The whole thing got fast-tracked under an extreme urgency certificate while Mwambe asks the court to spring him under whatever conditions they want to set.
