Expanse RPG aims high with astronaut insight

Owlcat Games is developing its first third-person action role-playing game, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn. The studio collaborated with former NASA astronaut Leroy Chiao to create a believable space environment while avoiding overly cumbersome realism.

To streamline movement outside a spacecraft, the game uses magnetic boots instead of requiring a physical tether. This design choice maintains the peril of drifting away in space without complicating gameplay. A recent developer diary showed limited gameplay, including a brief look at third-person cover-based combat in space.

The game is available for wishlisting on PC and consoles, though a specific release date remains unannounced, and a launch within 2026 appears unlikely.
