Owlcat Hires CD Projekt Vets for The Expanse Third-Person RPG Shift

Owlcat Games brings new talent to create The Expanse Osiris Reborn after focusing on computer role-playing games for years. The studio hired developers from CD Projekt RED to help build their first third-person action game. Alexander Mishulin and Andrey Tsvetkov discussed the project during a recent interview. The company announced the game at Summer Game Fest 2025 earlier this month. This marks a major change from their previous titles like Pathfinder Kingmaker and Warhammer 40000 Rogue Trader.

The development team chose third-person perspective to connect players with characters better. Mishulin explained that The Expanse focuses on human relationships and realistic science fiction settings. The studio wants players to feel immersed in the grounded world of the series. Developers created cinematic experiences that show character emotions and interactions clearly. The new viewpoint helps achieve these storytelling goals more effectively.

Owlcat Games tested many combat systems before settling on their final approach. The team built six different prototype arenas to perfect fighting mechanics. Developers experimented with cover systems and enemy behavior patterns. Each test helped refine the gameplay experience for players. The studio worked hard to make combat feel smooth and engaging.

The company expanded their workforce specifically for this ambitious project. New team members brought expertise from similar action games to the development process. Owlcat combined their existing knowledge with fresh perspectives from experienced developers. The collaboration helped establish new production methods for the studio. No release date has been announced for The Expanse Osiris Reborn.
