Fancy Gadam’s GH¢123 royalty sparks real talk

Fancy Gadam recently went public about his frustration after receiving a royalty check for only GH₵123.82. The artist from the northern region posted a screenshot of the small payment on social media, questioning how years of hits and hard work resulted in such a tiny amount. This sparked a massive debate among fans and other musicians regarding how the Ghana Music Rights Organisation handles cash. The group, known as GHAMRO, eventually issued a statement to clarify that these payments are based on specific data rather than just how famous an artist is.

The organization noted that it only manages publishing rights, which usually make up a small fraction of total digital earnings. Most of the money from platforms like Spotify goes directly to whoever owns the master recordings, often through a label or distributor. Leaders at the agency mentioned that over 90 percent of radio and TV stations in the country fail to pay their fees or report what they play. Without this information and the actual money from broadcasters, the system cannot distribute larger amounts to creators. The body suggested that the singer should talk to their distribution team to get a better look at their personal statement.
